This dog wheelchair design is for dogs with enough front leg strength to walk while being supported in the hind end. Conditions that benefit from the use of a Rear Support Wheelchair include degenerative myelopathy, spinal injuries, fractures, cruciate ligament injuries, and more. This design can also highly benefit a dog rehabilitating after surgery. The wheelchair can be used in a “walking” version, or you can place your dog’s legs in the leg slings provided. The Rear Support Wheelchair provides enough support to allow your dog to retain muscle mass, as well as build strength, while keeping his or her spine in a normal position.

Hybrid Support Saddle: Best in the Industry

We strongly believe this is the most important component of the wheelchair, as this is what comes in contact with your dog.  Therefore, each support saddle is custom made one at a time for each dog.  Our hybrid support saddle combines the benefits of a closed cell foam leg ring, which provides great pelvic support, with the comfort and flexibility of a soft, durable, neoprene. This hybrid support saddle greatly benefits dogs with some remaining mobility, as well as being supportive enough for dogs that have lost complete use of the rear legs. This saddle is a soft saddle. However, it is very sturdy and supportive, providing the same support as other “riged” designs, but with much more comfort. There is added reinforcement sewn all the way under the pelvic floor region that acts like the “solid leg ring” in the riged designs, but gives slight flexibility, for added comfort. The added support sewn in place, in conjunction with the super thick, 4 mm neoprene, and the padded leg holes, make this the most comfortable and first of it’s kind in the industry. Most importantly, the attachment system that we have put in place limits the “swinging” that can occur with some of these soft neoprene saddles on the market.

Mechanical Closure System

Easy to use, very durable mechanical closure system used to attach support saddle to the frame of the wheelchair. This is a super nice button release system. These straps and buckles will NOT break. These were originally designed for snow board bindings, so they will withstand very cold and warm climates. The push bottom system allows for easy on and off. No more tricky side squeeze buckles. No more phone calls for replacement parts. The ridged material helps limit the “swinging” that can occur with other soft saddles.

Dachshund/Corgi Harness

Oh my, if you have ever seen a harness that straps in front of a Dachshund or Corgi chest. Their short little legs come right up to their chest, and the front strap on a harness constantly falls in front of the legs, down onto the elbows, tripping up these poor little guys. This harness prevents all this hassle! We can put this harness on any wheelchair, but it was specifically designed for the Dachshunds and Corgis.

Update on Toss-Up sent April 2011 “I’ve been meaning to write you an update on Toss-Up. She is fully recovered from her surgery and back to 100% mobility due in large part to her wheelchair! The vet was amazed at her recovery! He said her bone healed perfectly, adding that it was the best he had seen! He said the chair had to be the reason! We were so excited! Also, Toss was able to regain her ability to walk the full 4 miles (in the wheelchair) within three weeks after her release from vet restriction because she was able to exercise during her restriction time post surgery.
